For the last decade, Indian prime minister Narendra Modi has been at the helm of the world’s third largest economy, which will soon be the most populous place on Earth with 1.425 billion inhabitants. But how much is known about his governance style, his evident paranoia, his private life, his phobia of the press, the roots of his ideology, his personality cult, the drivers of his popularity, and the workings of his party machine? Far from being a hero, for many Indians he is a far-right, xenophobic leader who espouses a supremacist ideology and constitutes a threat to civil liberties and minorities in his country. And he is intending to run for a third term in the spring of 2024.
